"An unceasing exploration of the body and the home as potential places of shelter shapes the practice of Anna Ill. The artist invokes and reclaims the female body as a dwelling, as a metaphor for home. For this project, she has created sculptures using industrial materials such as iron mesh—typically used to reinforce concrete structures—which she combines with organically derived objects (including cotton fabrics, among others). These incorporated elements also carry a prior history; they are bearers of a lived intimacy that deepens the artist’s exploration of those spaces that offer us refuge.

The result is a series of sculptures in which an unresolved tension can be felt—filled with absences, crossed by moments of nervous materiality, and which, like love, are the product of an impossible balance."
